Preemptively: eff you cancer.

I honestly don't know if any of my "Cancer Sucks" posts survived the purge when I wiped out most of the stuff on this blog last year. If you've been here since the beginning, you might remember: one of my best friends had cancerous ovarian tumors in early 2010. She had one ovary removed and after a kind of complicated recovery she had been doing well. I was one of the 1st people she told about her issues (before her dad) so I was pretty much a wreck during that whole ordeal.

Then the bitch up and moved to Colorado this spring. (I mean bitch in the most affectionate way possible)

Now she tells me she'll be back next weekend for "medical reasons" and is now posting pessimistic status updates on Facebook.

Cue me shitting a brick. You do not come back cross country on a whim when you're broke as hell to go see a doctor unless things are majorly wrong. Especially when there's probably some awesome oncologists in Denver/some major city much more local.

I fear the worst. I hope I'm wrong.

Ill health aside, I hope her dad convinces her to stay here when she comes back, the guy she moved to Colorado for is a grade-A douche. She doesn't need that healthy or sick.

Wordless Wednesday

It's the little stupid things.

Theres this Director of Nursing for a home whose records I do. Normally she's a less than lovely combination of clueless and demanding.

My phone rings this morning, and I see the home's name pop up on the caller ID (because our new fancypants phone system does that...) and expect more of the same demanding ditziness.

Instead, she wants her stuff (due today) to show up at a reasonable business hour rather than whatever ungodly evening hour the crappy contracted transportation department decides to show up with their afternoon delivery (9, 10, 11...later) as she's going on vacation tomorrow and wants to make sure shizz is squared away by then. Since the stuff was done and set to be rotting on the table (can a 6 hour old print job really rot?) until after my lunch, I separated the applicable parts and stuffed them into bags. They were brought down to make the late morning run, which means she'll get them by 5 at the latest (I think...its been nearly two years and I have no idea what time delivery runs go out/when they finish, ect)

I called her back & informed her of this. I "made her day".

Suck on that crappy mood from this morning!

Wordless Wednesday

Pardon me for ruining "Wordless Wednesday" with, y'know, words, but I've seen other bloggers doing this for a while now, so I think I'm going to start. It's pretty simple. Post a picture...on a Wednesday...with no words.

What a concept :)

Um uh oh.

I'm not going to lie, this article, seen on Mashable this afternoon worries me. This blog is a Blogger blog.
Say goodbye to the Picasa and Blogger names: Google intends to retire several non-Google name brands and rename them as Google products, Mashable has learned.
The move is part of a larger effort to unify its brand for the public launch of Google+, the search giant’s social initiative.
Blogger and Picasa aren’t going away, of course — they’re two of Google’s most popular products. Instead, according to two sources familiar with the matter, Google intends to rename Picasa “Google Photos” and Blogger will become “Google Blogs.” Several other Google brands are likely to be affected, though our sources made it clear that YouTube would not be rebranded. The technology giant shut down Google Video, its failed web video service, in May.
The move isn’t without precedent; Google acquired JotSpot in 2006 and rebranded it as Google Sites in 2008. In 2007, Google acquired VOIP platform GrandCentral and relaunched it as Google Voice in 2009.
Picasa and Blogger were also Google acquisitions, although both companies have been part of the Google empire for far longer. Picasa was acquired in 2004 and Blogger (co-founded by Evan Williams of Twitter) was acquired in 2003 and is one of the top 10 most visited websites in the world. Although the rebranding could upset some existing customers, it also gives Google the ability to completely integrate both services into Google+.
Rebranding Coming in Next Six Weeks
The transition from Picasa and Blogger to Google Photos and Google Blogs will occur “in a month to a month and a half,” we’ve been told. The date aligns with the likely public launch of Google+. Mashable has been told to expect the public debut of Google+ on or before July 31. The date is important because it’s the day all private Google Profiles will be deleted.
We believe Google doesn’t want to have private profiles after the public Google+ launch. Instead, the company is likely to encourage users who want more privacy to use Circles to curate their friend groups.
The brand unification effort will be the largest in company history — it’s never renamed a property as large as Blogger. The popular blog creation service has been receiving a lot of extra love recently. In March, Google announced that Blogger would receive a major overhaul. We doubt many people expected that the overhaul would include a rebranding, though.
Google+ makes perfect sense for Blogger and Picasa — they are both social products that improve as more people use them. It’s important to note that Google+ already has a photos feature, a product that we believe utilizes Picasa technology. It’s also important to note that Google+’s photo feature has no Picasa branding of any kind.
Update: Google declined to comment on this story.

I guess I'll have to play this by ear. If it's a simple name change, then fine and dandy. If they radically change Blogger along with the name, I might actually have to move this blog to WordPress. Does anyone know if the free WordPress accounts (not self-hosted) allow you to import posts from another platform?

On another note, Google+ is interesting. I nabbed an invite last week. I haven't really figured it out yet, but what little I have is promising.

Happy Fourth of July!

Now don't take an eye out with the less than legal fireworks you smuggled home from out of state :P
